CNY Steamboat Challenge 2020 Results

The 7th Annual CNY Steamboat Challenge will be held at the MOST in 2020.

The 6th Annual CNY Steamboat Challenge was live-streamed at the MOST on Saturday, October 17th, 2020.

Students built a boat out of recycled materials and a homemade metallic engine that produces steam to propel the boat when heated by a tea light candle. Teams of between one and four students in grades four through 12 submitted their boats to be raced on 3 inches of water along 10-foot-long inflatable tracks.

Competition is divided into three levels: Division I (grades 4-6), Division II (grades 7-8) and Division III (grades 9-12).

Here are the 2020 CNY Steamboat Challenge winners:

Division I
First place: Steam Atoms of Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School

Division II
First place: Hippokampos of The Syracuse Latin School
Second place: Eagle of Eagle Hill Middle School
Third place: Atoms of Utica Academy of Science

Winners received a medal and goodie bag and the winning schools received a plaque.

CNY Steamboat Challenge is organized by the MOST and sponsored by SRC and The Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman Foundation Support is provided by Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY).
