REGISTRATION OPENS SPRING 2023
July 24-28, 2023: Drop-off each day is at the MOST at 8:30-9:00 AM. Pick-up is at the MOST at 4:30-5:00 PM. Program is free and open to any Onondaga County student entering 9th grade in 2022-23 (8th grade graduates). Space is limited to 40 campers. Breakfast and Lunch is provided.
Join us as we explore local natural and built sites throughout Syracuse and surrounding areas to explore sustainability, environmental engineering, and other solutions to climate change in our local community! The majority of this camp takes place outdoors.
Begun as a program to highlight the cleanup of Onondaga Lake and the surrounding watershed, Summer Science Week has evolved into the premier opportunity for eighth grade graduates to get hands-on fieldwork experience and exploration in environmental science concepts, practices, and careers before entering high school. The goal of this camp is to enable students to be more capable and confident contributors in secondary school programs by helping them develop skills in inquiry, observation, and problem solving in classroom, laboratory and field settings.
We believe this goal can be realized by empowering students through hands-on experiential learning and personal ownership of scientific data. Gathering, analyzing and reporting on personally collected data allows the students to become familiar with scientific language and units of measure, to better understand and explain fundamental concepts, and to gain a deeper appreciation of nature and their local environment.
