MACNY Future Women in STEM

Explore careers in engineering, manufacturing, and science with amazing local women that work in these industries!

This free series for girls in 6th-8th grades brings female professionals from local companies to lead students in a fun, hands-on activity together to spark interest in high-tech careers.

Program includes FREE admission to the MOST (student and their family) and light snacks.

All programs are the 2nd Saturday of the month (October through May), 10:00–11:00am at the MOST. (500 S. Franklin St. Syracuse NY 13202)

How Stable is your Table?

with Feldmeier Equipment
Using their STEM skills, creativity, and an assortment of marshmallows and toothpicks, groups will work with Feldmeier engineers to design and build the strongest platform possible. Structures will be ‘put to the test’ to determine how much load they’re able to support versus the amount of material used. Scores will be displayed in real time while groups evaluate, modify, and improve their designs.

Design & Build: The Manufacturing Experience

Ever wonder how your favorite products are made? Discover the world of manufacturing, where everything around us is brought to life! In this session, you’ll explore “lean manufacturing,” a process companies use to minimize waste and boost efficiency. Get ready for hands-on activities that bring these concepts to life, letting you use teamwork and creativity to solve real-world challenges just like the pros do.

Students will make their own keychain using pre-packaged resin, molds, and hot water. They will learn about quality assurance and how Tessy uses this to make unique plastic products.

Design professionals from King + King Architects will lead students in an activity to design their dream apartment or tiny home. This activity will combine creative and artistic thinking with math and technical design as students draw and color their own floor plans.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Lab and Critical Care Nursing

with Crouse & Laboratory Alliance of Central New York
Have you wanted to be a healthcare professional but never had the chance to try? This session will give students the opportunity to try hands-on skills used in a clinical laboratory—microscopes, artificial urine dip-stick testing, using tests for diagnosis, and drawing blood from a model phlebotomy arm. Also see how being an intensive care unit nurse takes advanced skills—nasogastric tube placement, how ventilation equipment works, intraosseous drills on bone models, and more!
