CNY Bridges 2016 Results

A total of 156 teams with 402 students flocked to the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology early on the morning of Nov. 12, 2016, for the 17th annual Central New York Bridges Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em bridge-building competition. Here is additional information about the competition, if you have a team of students interested in participating in next year’s competition. The next two dates for bridges competitions are Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, and Saturday, Nov. 10th, 2018.

Here are the 2016 winning teams:

Category I (Grades 4 through 6)

First Place: WOLCA John 14:6; Word of Life Christian Academy, in Baldwinsville; Naomi Clark, a fifth grader
Second Place: Team Barker; Homeschooled; R.J. Bartholomew and Connor Parker, both fourth graders
Third Place: Van Duynamites; Van Duyn School, in the Syracuse district; Ta’Ron Thomas, Shawn Reed Jr., and Donnel Ayers, all fifth graders
Fourth Place: Block Busters; St. Mary’s School, in Baldwinsville; Kevin Callahan, Michael DeGregorio, and Sierra Burke, all fifth graders
Best Design: Bridge Titans; Word of Life Christian Academy, in Baldwinsville; Micah Alpuerto, a sixth grade student, and Isaiah Planas, a fifth grader

Category II (Grades 7 and 8)

First Place: We Build It, You Break It; Onondaga Hill Middle School, in the Westhill district; Ryan Clancy, Sophia Rubino, and Christian Rubino, all eighth graders
Second Place: OHMS5; Onondaga Hill Middle School, in the Westhill district; Abby Miggiani, Quinn Pens, and Magnolia Wilkinson, all seventh graders
Third Place: I am Batman; Onondaga Hill Middle School in the Westhill district; Lenora Rienhart, Jade LaVeck, and Madison Bealer, all seventh graders
Fourth Place: The Ballers that try to be Builders; Skaneateles Middle School; Molly Nicholson, a sixth grader, and Faith Wagner, a seventh grade student
Best Design: Building Men of Clary; Clary Middle School, in the Syracuse district; Sevion Felton and Malcolm Graine, both sixth graders, and Emory Jones, a seventh grader
Best Name: Beam Team; Camillus Middle School, in the West Genesee district; Zachary Voss and Preston Vella, both eighth graders

Category III (Grades 9 through 12)

First Place: Truss Us; Fowler High School, in the Syracuse district; Blessing Saw, Naresh Sharma, and Elaine Phan, all 12th graders
Second Place: Bridgemasters16; North Syracuse Junior High School; Justin Kehoe and Brian Pellegrino, both ninth graders
Third Place: The Bridgers 3; Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School, in Syracuse; Wah Hee Dar, Azamat Karimov, and Riley Phuc, all 10th graders
Fourth Place: ITC Team 5, Corcoran High School, in the Syracuse district; Trang Nguyen and Claire Collins, both 12th graders
Best Design: Warrenators; Cicero-North Syracuse High School; Makayla Wright, a ninth grader, and Mariah Porter, an 11th grader
Best Name: The Jalapeno Hotties; Skaneateles High School; Kathryn Nicholson and Corin Wagner, both 11th grade students
