Write-up on Syracuse.com

The 30th Annual Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair was held on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Solvay High School. The fair showcased the science projects from participants in 5th through 12th grades. This year, over 220 participants in the fair competed for over 30 prizes including tuition scholarships, cash prizes and the chance to advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Reno, Nevada later this year.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair is the MOST’s longest running and largest educational program. It is also the largest regional science fair in Upstate New York with students from Onondaga, Cayuga, Oswego, Madison, and Cortland counties represented. Students displayed projects from areas including animal sciences, chemistry, engineering technology, medicine and health sciences, astronomy and physics, and environmental sciences.

Lockheed Martin MS2 and National Grid, as well as many area businesses and professional organizations, provided financial support for the Fair which was coordinated by MOST Exhibits Manager Peter Plumley.

Meterologist, Dave Eichorn once again served as the master of ceremonies and Syracuse University Professor Marvin Druger was the keynote speaker. His topic was “How to be a Scientist” and was inspirational to the attendees. Judges volunteered for this event and were comprised of science educators and graduate students, engineers, and interested community members.
